2022 "little skipper"
After making wine for 4 years or so, it dawned on me that while my 100 year old grandmother would try my wines, all she really wanted to drink was Port. And for that matter just CVS purchased port. It was at this moment I had to intervene.
For a couple years I helped this guy in Santa Rosa with his tiny 20 vine front yard plot. The vineyard was originally a part of a much larger vineyard but the vines had all been ripped out besides these ones. The catch; these vines are 100 year old Zinfandel and Chessalas vines. A decade ago Chessalas was an off beat white grape that would make its way through hidden corridors at a nursery and into vineyards. After one year making a magnum exclusive cuvee, I picked very ripe in 2022 and made a sweet port style wine.
The grapes were destemmed and macerated until about 8 brix. At this moment I pressed and fortified the wine with brandy from Absentee winery. With nothing but regular topping the wine has been in barrel for just over two years. It’s not too strong and not too sweet.
-Organically farmed Zinfandel and Chessalas from Santa Rosa
-2022 sweet dessert wine
-18% abv / 375ml
