2023 Petaluma Pinot Noir
Situated in a little gulch just west of the Washoe House in northern Petaluma, this half acre of vines was planted as a home vineyard roughly 25 years ago. The vines are mostly Pinot Noir, but circumstance mutated a fair amount of the vines into Pinot Blanc. 20 miles from the coast this site is situated on sandstone, receiving strong coastal winds most summer afternoons keeping the site normally below 80 degrees all year long.
Since 2018 this Petaluma vineyard has grown up with me and borne the brunt of my learnings in farming. Whether learning about no-till systems, trying alternatives mildew sprays, or using Japanese scythes for weed control, I’ve had the fortune to learn and figure out what methods work best for me. In 2020 I lived in a tiny house on the property and got to spend my time mostly outdoors working on various property projects.
The grapes for 2023 were hand destemmed and macerated till the completion of the fermentation. The wine spent just over a year in barrel before bottling. This is my final vintage of the Petaluma Pinot Noir
-Organically farmed Petaluma Pinot Noir
-Dry farmed; nothing added to the wine
-12.5% abv/ 750ml
